Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of JD Graham’s song “Quiet In My Cloud” from his forthcoming album Pound of Rust, due to be released on June 23. The song will be available on May 12. The album was produced by Neilson Hubbard and Ryan Culwell; recorded at Skinny Elephant Studios; mixed by Neilson Hubbard and mastered by Yes Mastering. Graham set a historical record for first album recorded from in the Arizona State Prison while he was there, for his previous album.
For this album, now that he’s free, the recordings take on a new dimension. And he’s free in more ways than one. Freedom from addiction is a real freedom too. “Quiet In My Cloud” is JD Graham on vocals and guitar; Neilson Hubbard on drums and Juan Solorzano on pedal steel, acoustic guitar, bass, and high strung guitar. Easy tempo Americana rhythms frame up this riveting story on solitude as an escape. With the very relatable: “Stay the hell out.”
I wrote “Quiet In My Cloud” in a dark period of my life. I was struggling with the decision to get sober and facing a lot of consequences as a result of my addiction. This song speaks to the internal war I was fighting at the time and my inability to make peace with the process. – JD Graham
