Americana Highways presents this song premiere from the late, beloved David Olney’s forthcoming album of duets with Anana Kaye and her husband, Irakli Gabriel, Whispers and Sighs, due to be available on March 26, 2021. The album was produced and mixed by Brett Ryan Stewart (Wirebird Productions) at his studio in Nashville.

Anana Kaye and husband Irakli Gabriel titled “My Last Dream of You” for premiere on February 24, 2021. Anana takes the lead on this one. (Anana and Irakli hail from Georgia, the country, that is, and now live in Nashville.). The loss of David Olney last year launched the series of shocks that was 2020.  Here’s a chance to cathartically purge some of those feelings as you listen with a box of tissues to the bittersweet sorrowful song, with lovely guitar, Kaye’s lovely voice and the lovely David Olney on the backing vocals.

“My Last Dream Of You” was written during one of our earlier sessions at John Hadley’s house (affectionately also known as “Fiddleback Shack”). In a way the song feels like a continuation, an echo to David Olney’s “My Favorite Goodbye,” even though it was not consciously intended as such. It’s a non-linear narrative with intertwining flashbacks, blurring reality and a fevered dream — somewhat evoking Vonnegut’s Billy Pilgrim from Slaughterhouse Five. A soldier thrown by fate across the ocean to fight a war he never thought he’d have to fight. Literally and figuratively, the lights are fading as he lays in a hospital bed. All he can see and feel are the face and the spirit of his beloved he had to leave behind.  — Irakli Gabriel
