Tiffany Williams – I’ll Be Back Soon

Tiffany Williams is a powerhouse vocalist, whose vocal prowess is matched by her songwriting. Her first EP, When You Go, set the bar high for her future releases. If you have not listened to When You Go, you need to put it at the top of your list of ones you should spin sooner rather than later. Tiffany Williams is definitely an artist you should know and pay attention to, as she is going places.

I mentioned that When You Go set the bar high for her future releases, her second EP, I’ll Be Back Soon, released on February 12,2021 clears that bar with no trouble. This one is comprised of three originals and a cover of one of my all-time favorite songs.

I’ll Be Back Soon opens with “If It Wasn’t,” a duet with Jonathan Dean. “I guess now I know what I have always known” she starts as she pines, “why did you tell me it was if it wasn’t enough” in a heartbreaker of a song. “If It Wasn’t” is simply a beautiful sad song, which speaks to the songwriting and delivery by Tiffany Williams.

“You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive,” the cover on the EP, written by Darrell Scott (who accompanies Williams on her version) is one of my favorite songs and has been covered by a host of country stars such as Patty Loveless, Montgomery Gentry, and many more. From the opening lyrics, Tiffany’s vocals are simply amazing as she makes it her song. Patty Loveless’s version has always been my favorite female vocalist’s and to me sets the standard for this song. Until now! This is now Tiffany Williams’ standard. The fact that Darrell Scott is accompanying her is just the icing on the cake. This song is the perfect vehicle to show how powerful a voice she truly is. I am not taking anything away from her three original songs on the EP when I say that Tiffany’s version of “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive” is reason by itself to order the EP; it is simply that strong. In fact, it took me a better part of a day listening to this song before I made myself move on to the other songs!

“The man I wanted to love bought a ticket to the moon, he kissed my hand and said I’ll be back soon, but waiting breaks your heart and hoping leaves you hard.” “Ticket To The Moon” showcases Tiffany’s wordsmithing and writing talent while blending into a beauty of a song. To say her songwriting is as powerful as her vocal ability is an understatement. The beauty here is in the lyrics as well as her masterful delivery.

“California” is another showcase of Tiffany’s songwriting, “The last time you saw it, your face looked like your mother’s and you’re glad she’s not here to see” “California” is a brutal glimpse of how life doesn’t always equal our dreams. “Everywhere you go now, you’re a stranger, and a cautionary tale on full display” —  life can be ugly and beautiful at the same time. In “California” Tiffany paints that picture as only she can.

All in all, Tiffany Williams’ second EP, I’ll Be Back Soon is a masterpiece that is every bit as good if not better than When You Go. If you haven’t already ordered I’ll Be Back Soon you really should, as I really think it is going to be one of the top releases of 2021. https://tiffanymwilliams.com/music
