Song Premiere: Domenic Cicala feat. Jaimee Harris “If Only You Were Mine”

Listen & Watch Song Premieres

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Domenic Cicala’s song “If Only You Were Mine” (featuring Jaimee Harris) from his forthcoming album of duets: Come On Over (Honky Tonk Duets) due to be available on February 12th. “If Only You Were Mine” was written by John Howie Jr. and Catherine Merritt, and is Gary Ferguson on guitars and mandolin; Lynn Kasdorf on steel guitar; Mark Noone on baritone; Ben Holmes on drums; Moe Nelson on acoustic bass; backing Domenic Cicala and Jaimee Harris on vocals.

Impeccable honky tonk is made all the sweeter by the mingling vocals. As harbingers go, this one is necessarily a good omen for the upcoming album.

“If Only You Were Mine” was on the short list and the first song we cut for this record. I had met Jaimee and saw her perform at a music conference after hearing so much buzz from my Texas friends. I invited her to headline a Singer/Songwriters series show that I produce and after she accepted, I snuck in my request to have her do a couple songs while she was here. Listening to the original I could hear Jaimee all over this song and when we got into the studio, she more than delivered.
We played around with the notion of a different arrangement but decided the original was pretty spot on. The chugging baritone guitar courtesy of Mark Noone and Lynn Kasdorf’s weeping steel drive the emotion of the John Howie Jr/ Tift Merritt song.  — Domenic Cicala
