Joe Rian & The A.M. Drinkers “New Day”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Joe Rian & The A.M. Drinkers’ folk song “New Day” (out Sep.3) from their forthcoming album Think Yer In Luv, which is set for release on October 2. Think Yer In Luv was produced by Joe Rian and Jaime Gartelos; recorded by Jaime Gartelos at Grass Alley Studio; and mastered by Gavin Lurssen of Lurssen Mastering.
“New Day” is Joe Rian on guitar and lead vocals; B.C. Carter on guitar; Jack Conley on drums; and Mike Dumont on bass.
As Joe tells us about the song, “’New Day’ came out of me noticing how much music is about heartbreak or falling apart. There’s a lot of sad out there, and I wanted to write the opposite of that. I sat down and tried to think of every feeling or memory that’s just universally, undeniably happy: your first kiss, your dad taking you fishing, a drive-in movie on a summer night. Things everybody has some version of. The song is basically a reminder that those days still exist and you’re gonna wake up to one. I also made the music video entirely by hand. I made thousands of individual drawings done in the traditional stop-motion style, which took months. As a special shout out, I drew around 70 collectors of my music and featured them throughout the video. To me, that process matched the song: slow, deliberate, made with love, and made for the people who’ve supported this music.
Joe’s whiskey soaked vocals anchor the vibe, while the electric guitar noodles and weaves in and out. Overall the optimism is heartwarming: “You’re gonna wake up, wake up to a beautiful day.” This is an enjoyable animated video to accompany the catchy, toe tapping song. The video is multiple drawings made by Joe by hand; and as he describes it, the process took months. The result is truly amazing.
