Bloodkin “Enemy Within”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Bloodkin’s song “Enemy Within” from their forthcoming album Flowers & Ash, which is set for release on September 11 via World Will Turn records. The album was produced by David Barbe and Eric Carter; and recorded at Chase Park Transduction in Athens, Georgia.
“Enemy Within” is Eric Carter on guitars and vocals; John Neff on tremelo hook guitar; David Barbe on bass; Aaron Phillips on drums; Betsy Franck and Tori Pater on backing vocals; Ben Hackett on saxophone; Lars Hefner on trombone; and McKendrick Bearden on trumpet.
As Eric Carter tells us about this song, “The phrase ‘Enemy Within’ seems to strike a nerve. The germ of the song came from a soundcheck somewhere, not long before the election. While I was checking my vocal mic, I sang the first few lines, and Tori immediately perked up. He said, ‘We’ve got to record that, put it out on Inauguration Day, and I’ll pay for it!’
“That would have been fun, except the song hadn’t been written yet. Once I finished it, though, I began thinking of it as a single from the album. I had this crazy excitement about the possibility of the song sparking a nationwide debate—and maybe getting me into serious trouble.
“I will say this: there’s a certain type of person I sincerely hope this tune pisses off.”
Bloodkin has a low driving energy that captivates their many fans on the regular.
