Grain Thief – “Walk in the Rain”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Grain Thief’s song “Walk in the Rain” from their forthcoming album House of the Dog, set for release on August 1 via Plow Man Records. House of the Dog was produced by Grain Thief and Brad Benkso; engineered by Brad Bensko with assistance by Dan Bui; mixed by Brad Bensko; and mastered by Jeff Lipton at Peerless Mastering in Boston with assistance by Costanza Tinti. Album design was created by Zach Meyer with illustrations by Bill Meyer. The album was recorded at Wachusett Recording with additional recording at Avaloch Farm.

“Walk in the Rain” is Patrick Mulroy on guitar and vocals; Zach Meyer on mandolin and vocals; Mike Harmon on bass and vocals; Tom Farrell on resonator guitar; and Alex Barstow on fiddle. Closely vibrating group vocals create a lovely rustic gritty effect as Grain Thief whirls their fingers on the acoustic instruments in a breathtaking fashion.  Impressive.

This song is probably the most “bluegrass” song on the album, even though we don’t really fall in the “traditional” category of the genre. It’s uptempo and has an arrangement with solos, three part harmonies, group melody lines, and even has a bridge(!!!). It’s a lot of fun to play and a nice way to grab attention at a live show. – Michael Harmon
