Mary Scholz – “Streetlights (Live)”
Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of Mary Scholz’s song “Streetlights,” which appeared on her EP Poems from Earth in its live version. This video was recorded live by Kevin Rogers at The Hotel Cafe, mixed by Zackary Darling, and mastered by Stephen Marsh.
“Streetlights” is Mary Scholz on acoustic guitar and vocals; Abby Posner on banjo; William Gramling on accordion and keys; Zachary Ross on acoustic guitar; Jamie Douglass on drums; and Ted Russell Kamp on upright bass.
Mary’s airy ethereal vocals spin the tale like a true old style folk singer. Lilting soprano vulnerability and an inspirational message.
It’s a special thing, to be surrounded by such talented musicians, who I also call dear friends. Especially while performing a song written in, and about, such intense solitude. The lyrics from “Streetlights” inspired the title of the Begin Again record, and it is very meaningful to me to continue bringing this message forward, by putting the live version on the Poems From Earth EP. Hope and sorrow, joy and sadness, they all exist hand in hand, and it is not because we are broken, it’s because we are human. It’s important to remember that while we heal and move forward. “And I, with my hope, and my sorrow, Begin Again.”
I am so grateful to get to make music with these talented folks, and to have my dear friend and fantastic artist Abby Posner sit in with us on banjo to celebrate the album’s release. – Mary Scholz
