Handsome and the Humbles – “You Walked Away”

Americana Highways is premiering the first single from Handsome and the Humble’s upcoming album, Alternative—–>Country, due out May 19. “You Walked Away” (lyrics by Smith, music by Smith and Hutson) was produced by Smith, Hutson and Killingsworth, engineered and mixed by Killinsgworth and mastered by Thomas Smith. The song will be available on April 21.

“You Walked Away” is Josh Smith on lead vocals, backing vocals, and bass; Josh Hutson on vocals, guitar, keyboards, and programming; Kris “Tugboat” Killingsworth on drums; and Matt Coker on organ.

“You Walked Away” is a break-up song written, oddly enough, before frontman Josh Smith’s own busted-up marriage. Set against big riffs from guitarist Josh Hutson and a riotous organ line from Matt Coker (drummer Kris “Tugboat” Killingsworth rounds out the band), the song is not so much bitter as regretful – “Sometimes I said things I don’t mean/I mean more than I say” – making it a rather polite, very Southern kiss-off from the Tennessee native. Smith adds – “I wrote this song about a breakup before I had even experienced THE breakup. Good thing Hutson laid down those sleazy guitar licks to knock some of the sad off of it.”
