Song Premiere: April Verch & Cody Walters “Dear Brother”

Listen & Watch Song Premieres

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of April Verch and Cody Walters’ song “Dear Brother” from their forthcoming album Passages and Partings, due to be available on March 24. Passages and Partings (Slab Town Records/Free Dirt) was produced by April Verch & Cody Walters; mixed by Jim Bryson; and mastered by Randy LeRoy. Original Artwork and layout for the album is by Nico Humby.

“Dear Brother” is April Verch on fiddle and harmony vocals; Cody Walters on bass; Pharis Romero on guitar and lead vocals; and Jason Romero on banjo.  With a lilting, pure vocal and a stirring folk song about being separated from your siblings and family in a dire rupture — inspired by real letters written by refugee children.  Chilling, poignant, loving and beautiful all together at once.

“Dear Brother” is a song I co-wrote with my good friend Jon Weisberger. It was inspired by and based on letters we read, that were written by refugee children. We used the images and stories they shared and attempted to add as little as possible from our own imaginations or ideas. Cody and I were thrilled to have one of our all time favourite duos, Pharis & Jason Romero join us on this track. We dedicate this song to all who journey in search of a place of peace, safety and hope. – April Verch
