Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Calista Garcia’s song “The Coals,” from her forthcoming album Confession, which is due to be released in 2023. Confession was produced by Jim Scott and Calista Garcia at Plyrz Studios; and mixed by Jim Scott and engineered by Benjamin Knapp. It was mastered by Richard Dodd.
“The Coals” is Calista Garcia on lead vocals, acoustic guitar, and harmonica; Doug Pettibone on lead guitar; Davíd Garza on organ; Sebastian Steinberg on bass; Jimmy Paxson on drums; and Jim Scott on percussion. Coals come after sparks and flames. Calista has clear vocal tones as she tells you she’s going to walk on those coals, and that if we’re going to live, let’s all make each day a new step toward our dreams. Shake off the restraints and the doldrums, and catch this offering from one of this year’s brightest musical flames.
My hope with this song is that it will inspire listeners to act. Ask that person out, quit that job you hate, pursue that hobby/artform you’re feeling called to. I think right now we all, myself included, have been a little too trapped in our heads. We can question and overthink forever. To move forward, we have to take that first step. — Calista Garcia
