Michael McArthur — “Winding River”

Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of Michael McArthur’s song “Winding River” from his recent release Milky Stars, schedule to be released on Transoceanic/Soundly on September 16.  The album was produced, engineered, and mixed by Jacquire King; with assistant engineers Dawson March and Kolton Lee; and it was mastered by Pete Lyman.

“Winding River” is Michael McArthur on vocals and acoustic guitar;  Drew Smithers on electric guitar; Elliott Blaufuss on Mellotron, synths, and Wurlitzer; Dawson March on synth; Eli Beaird on bass; and Aaron Sterling on drums and percussion.

The video was produced by Michael McArthur.  Is there anything that rivals the beauty of the mountains and rivers of the Pacific Northwest?  The footage alone should compel you to watch this video; and the tender vocals of McArthur will soothe your soul just like skipping stones on the river bank will. The song is honest, as it captures the floods and the storms, as well as the peaceful days both in nature and metaphorically in relationship.

A few years back, Elaine and I took a road trip from Seattle to Big Sur. We made stops along the way in Portland, San Francisco, Napa, Monterey, and Carmel Valley. That old stone wall you see is Pride Mountain Vineyards in St. Helena. I proposed to her there in 2013 and we’d gone back to visit. I always have a camera on me to document our life together. Those were beautiful moments, but they only tell a partial truth. The road doesn’t always stretch out in the way we imagined it would. With time, comes winter, change, mistakes, and redirects. If we’re lucky, we’ll learn from it all. That’s “Winding River.” Ride it out, and life will be beautiful again. — Michael McArthur
