Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of Matt Hannah’s song “Sidelines” from his third album House of Illusions, due to be available on March 8. The album was produced by Matt Patrick at the Library Studio in Minneapolis. Minnesota, and mastered by Greg Reierson at Rare Form Mastering.
“Sidelines” is Matt Hannah on vocals and acoustic guitar; Matt Patrick on synths; JT Bates on drums;
Erik Koskinen on electric guitar and Ian Allison on bass guitar. The animated lyric video provides a whimsical grounding for a song that could break your heart. Written, generally speaking, as a lyrical story akin to Brandi Carlile’s “The Joke,” it’ll hit your gut for all the outsiders out there feeling stuck on the sidelines. And musically it’s all heartfelt Americana.

“Sidelines” started as a title I got freewriting. It made me think of being outside of experiences other people are having together, and feeling different. I thought about being a kid and always being more of an observer rather than jumping into things. I try to embrace that part of me in the song, ultimately. — Matt Hannah
