Ash & Eric

Video Premiere: Ash & Eric “Autumn Hymn”

Listen & Watch Video Premieres

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Ash & Eric’s song “Autumn Hymn,” which is the lead single from their forthcoming debut album Sure. The video is also one of five videos from their 25-minute visual album, A Song for Every Sadness, releasing this summer. All songs were mixed, arranged and produced by Eric L’Esperance; the album was mastered by Jason Deift. Music and lyrics by Ashley P. H. L’Esperance and Eric P. L’Esperance.

“Autumn Hymn” is Eric L’Esperance on vocals, acoustic guitar, bass, percussion, and high string guitar; Ash L’Esperance on vocals, acoustic guitar, and piano; Marie Brouillette on flute; and Peter L’Esperance on trumpet.  Ash & Eric build on the vulnerability in their vocals to deliver an awakening of a song.  Stripped down musically, “Autumn Hymn” remembers the core of simplicity that nature can still help us recall.  Their blinders on during the video symbolically emphasize our need to slow the input.

An “Autumn Hymn” for the disillusioned. When the institutions and systems which once claimed to save us failed us, we walked away from the dogmatic structure we were raised in. We turned to the natural world for a renewed sense of since-lost hope. We lay under the trees and remembered everything we lost.

We listened to the cries of the forest, let our feet become rooted in the earth as the birds sang us back into peace. We learned to listen and even sing again in the midst of the silence. “A Song for Every Sadness” (Ash & Eric’s upcoming visual album) gains its title from these lyrics. These songs are truly our shelter from the storm.  — Ash & Eric
