Listen & Watch Song Premieres

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Rhyan Sinclair’s song “Interstate Sailors,” from her forthcoming album Letters to Aliens, due to be released on March 4. The album was produced by Rhyan Sinclair and Jason Groves; engineered and mastered by Jason Groves at Sneak Attack Recording Co. in Lexington, Kentucky.

“Interstate Sailors” is Rhyan Sinclair on vocals and acoustic guitar; Danny Flanigan on electric guitar and background vocals; Jeff Binder on bass and background vocals; Cary Shields on drums and percussion; Toni Karpinski on harmony vocals; and Fats Kaplin on fiddle and Theremin.

Rhyan Sinclair’s songwriting crystallizes before your very eyes into something really wonderful, full of abstract and references and concrete imagery swirling together at once.  “A treasure for tomorrow now in the dark,” is Sinclair’s night riders’ anthem here in “Interstate Sailors.”

I was on the road one night after a show, late, so maybe I was delirious, but I started seeing my situation and the things around me through a sort of magical, fantastical lens. I envisioned myself as a southern-gothic sailor on a cosmic voyage, steering a ship with tattered sails, overcoming obstacles and casting out adversaries, on the way to reclaiming my personal power. I wrote the initial outline of the chorus and the first verse that night.

For me, the song is about my career in music, forging my own path within that world and owning my voice. I’m excited to send the song out into the world and hope that it may possibly act as an empowering mantra for someone else, like it has for me. — Rhyan Sinclair
