Ric Robertson — “Harmless Feeling”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Ric Robertson’s song “Harmless Feeling” from his forthcoming album Carolina Child, due to be released on July 30th via Free Dirt Records. Carolina Child was produced by Dan Molad of Lucius. Musicians on the album include Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig (Lucius), Dori Freeman, Nick Falk, Gina Leslie, Sam Fribush, Alex Hargreaves (Steve Martin, Kacey Musgraves), Eddie Barbash (Jon Batiste), Oliver Wood of The Wood Brothers, Kai Welch, Logan Ledger, and Nate Leath (Sierra Ferrel).

“Harmless Feeling” was co-written with Oliver Wood and Carsie Blanton.  The song was literally finished during a tornado, hardly a harmless feeling, and you can feel the authenticity of the experience steeped in the music.  This album is a deeply moving creation.

“Harmless Feeling” began with a seed from one of my musical heroes, Oliver Wood. He had sent it to a mutual collaborator of ours and one of my favorite songwriters, Carsie Blanton. Carsie and I developed the idea in our shared alleyway while a tornado swept through the New Orleans swamp. The lyrics must have been whirling somewhere in that twister. — Ric Robertson
