David Newbould “Ready for the Times to Get Better”

Americana Highways presents this premiere of David Newbould’s cover of Crystal Gayle’s (by way of Allen Reynolds) 1978 classic “Ready for the Times to Get Better,” from Newbould’s forthcoming album due out next year. This song was engineered and produced by Scot Sax, mixed by Goffrey Moore, and mastered by Alex McCullough of True East Mastering.

This version of “Ready for the Times to Get Better” is David Newbould on guitar and vocals; Scot Sax on bass and drums; and Kristin Weber on violin.  The professional videography with a great interplay of light and shadows while staying true to the song is a welcome feature on this.

Sanctioned effusively by both Crystal Gayle and original songwriter Allen Reynolds, Newbould’s version is powerful, elegant and timely with a dose of darkness.  He has an uncanny ability to pull you in irresistibly with his delivery, which converts to a unique interpretation. We’re all ready for the times to get better.

I fell in love with the song before the pandemic, but once the lockdown started, it took on new meaning. People have been hunkered down in their homes for a year. We’ve all been stuck here, ready for it to be over so we can get back to our regular lives. We’re ready for these times to change. — David Newbould
