‘smallsongs’ is a youtube series brought to you by Americana Highways with small & stripped down performances on the streets of different cities around the world, featuring musical acts at their rawest.
Back in November we took our ‘smallsongs’ bus to Dallas and got the opportunity to meet HONIN to shoot a couple songs in Lower Greenville:
Americana Highways: When did you first start playing music & why?
HONIN: Ive always liked doing it ever since I was little and I guess i stuck with it haha.
AH: What does your songwriting & creative process typically look like?
H: So many different ways. It’s usually me in my car singing to myself and then if i like something i record a voice memo. then when i get home I add chords and such to it. Or im just noodling on my keyboard and i play something i like, then run with it.
AH: Who are your artistic & musical influences?
H: Easy. My favorite person ever is Kimbra, ever since I heard her in highschool <3 I love how she can perform with tracks but still leave room for improvising. I think that makes a performance exciting. Also, at the moment, I love porches, tame impala, steve lacy, arlo parks.
AH: Have you been working on any new music during quarantine?
H: Oh yeah. Me and all my new demos, we’ve become great friends during this time 🙂
Stay tuned for multiple new ‘smallsongs’ coming each week featuring musical acts from Austin, San Antonio, and Houston!
