Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Scroggins & Rose’s video for the song “Bridge 218” from their recent album Curios. “Bridge 218” is Alisa Rose on violin, Tristan Scroggins on mandolin, and Kaitlyn Raitz was the videographer for this video.
With crisp footage, the video is stand-alone entertainment. Scroggins & Rose make intricate, music box country sounds.
“Bridge 218” was written for a woman that I had met at a bluegrass festival in the Netherlands. I was on tour, but we planned to get together during my upcoming day off in Amsterdam. We biked around the city together before ending up drinking a bottle of wine while sitting on a bridge overlooking a canal. I decided to name the tune after that bridge: I assumed it would have some charming Dutch name, but when I looked it up, it was just called Bridge 218. I had wanted to capture the excitement and anxiety of meeting a new person and feeling a cautious optimism as that connection grew. Working this tune up as a duet for this record really helped add dimension to the story by allowing us to play with the two voices and add an ethereal element that, to me, represents what it feels like to remember that feeling now that the relationship has ended. – Tristan Scroggins
