Video Premiere: “Garden” is Earth Day Offering from The Whispering Tree

Americana Highways brings you this video premiere in honor of Earth Day: The Whispering Tree (duo Eleanor Kleiner and Elie Brangbour)’s “Garden” from recent release Invisible Forces. Invisible Forces was engineered by Matthew Cullen, mixed by Tyler Wood, and mastered by Scott Craggs. “Garden” is Eleanor Kleiner on vocals, Elie Brangbour on vocals, acoustic & electric guitar, bass, Will Bryant on piano, and B3 and Otto Hauser on drums.

The animated video is by Flora Caulton, providing visual allure over somber vocals issuing a significant, important warning as we approach Earth Day. “Nothing’s growing in the garden today, all the birds have flown away…” It’s stunning that all these years later we are still struggling with the same catastrophic environmental effects, and the Whispering Tree delivers this message right on point, right on time.

The song imagines a world completely devastated by climate change. I remember learning about climate change in elementary school in the 80’s and here we are thirty years later still steadily marching toward the apocalypse. I had this haunting refrain running through my head on repeat for a couple of years (nothings growing in the garden, nothings growing there today, nothings growing in the garden, all the birds have flown away) and it eventually grew into this song. I was attempting to communicate the incredible wealth and beauty of this planet, the inter-dependency of all things and the urgency with which the world needs to react. I feel a deep regret and longing for what’s already been lost. UK-based animator, Flora Caulton created this beautiful, almost meditative video to accompany the song. – Eleanor Kleiner
