Watch: Video Premiere of Amilia K Spicer’s “Harlan”

Listen & Watch Video Premieres

Americana Highways is pleased to premiere “Harlan,” a video by Amilia K Spicer.  “Harlan” is a track from Spicer’s recent April release Wow and Flutter. In the video, Spicer not only performs the song from Wow and Flutter, she also acts in and co-directed the video with Edward Romero.  This is their third venture into creating films of the songs from Spicer’s album.

The video floats over scenes from rural Pennsylvania (Spicer’s childhood state), following Spicer’s personal journey to the birthplace of her father in the town of Harlan. It merges landscapes from both, with vacant lots and abandoned buildings becoming farm landscapes with a golden hue.   Spicer’s gentle vocals “I cannot reach it, I cannot run…whiskey runs through me like Mississippi”  lull us to languid reflection on the simplicities of memory and American landscapes.

“I wandered around,” Spicer recalls, “and noticed something shiny in the dirt. Turned out to be several pieces of coal, which I now have. Sometimes a lump of coal is a beautiful gift.”
