Ray Bonneville “Love That Never Was”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Ray Bonneville’s song “Love That Never Was,” from his forthcoming self-titled album set for release next year. This song will be available on October 9. It was recorded in Austin, Texas at King Electric Recording with Justin Douglass engineering.

“Love That Never Was” is Ray Bonneville on vocals, guitar, harmonica, and foot percussion; and Richie Lawrence on piano.

As Ray tells us about this song’s inception, “Working on a guitar groove late one night at home in Austin, TX, the words to Love That Never Was slowly came to me. Arriving in a strange town after a long journey, the character contemplates an empty, loveless feeling inside. As he walks the unknown streets, he comes upon a kindred soul who wordlessly shares an understanding of how he feels. The slow rolling guitar, piano and harmonica intertwine to give the song a lonesome feel. I wanted to create a cinematic feel to the story.”

This video was created by Annie Gallup. Foggy lights through a rain spotted windshield set the scene for “it was just the two of us talking quietly and a love that never was.” This song is stripped down, easy to resonate with emotionally, and relatable. The hushed ruminations, reflecting back on the fleeting intimate moments after something is over, and that love that just “never was.”
