Anthony Arya “The Dress”
Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Anthony Arya’s song “The Dress” from his forthcoming album. It was produced by Jordan Reifkind, mixed by Mark Mongilio, and mastered by Nate Mongo.
“The Dress” is Anthony Arya on lead vocals, harmony vocals, electric guitar and acoustic guitar; and Jordan Reifkind on synth, keyboards, electric bass guitar, and drum programming.
Anthony told us a little bit about the song’s meaning: “Many of the songs on the forthcoming album are about the ups and downs of life after college hanging around San Francisco. One of the realities I think many experience at the end of a relationship is the places and objects that remind you of past memories as you go about your day. I wrote “The Dress” during that time when you can feel a bit vulnerable walking down that one street where all the memories seem to flood back.”
Thoughtful, with rich guitar tones and a quite beautiful vocal tone, this song is sad. Asking after the breakup: “did you ever wear that dress I bought you? ’cause I never had a chance to see it.” A blend of Laurel Canyon and more modern folk styles in the musical arrangement, this song will bring a tear to your eye. The spaciousness is grand, and only makes the catharsis that much sadder.
