Brant Miller “The Last Songwriter”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of Brant Miller’s song “The Last Songwriter” from his recently released album In the Meantime. The album was produced by Brant Miller, mixed by Dylan Alldredge, and mastered by Alex McCollough.
“The Last Songwriter” is Brant Miller on lead vocal, acoustic guitar, and harmonica; Will Kimbrough on harmony vocals; Chris Leuzinger on acoustic guitar; Wanda Vick Burchfield on dobro and mandolin; and Mark Burchfield on bass.

As Brant Miller tells us about the song, “I wrote ‘The Last Songwriter’ two years ago, when I started hearing about the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence in the “creation” of music and other art forms. I knew I had to put my fears and those of other creators into a song totally not “written” with AI. Since that time, AI seems to have increased exponentially in the news and in our consciousness, with the expansion of data centers, with songs “written” and music “composed” with AI. Billboard’s first AI chart-topping “artist” in 2025 brought the message home that things were getting out of control and needed to be regulated; the Recording Academy and other organizations are working hard to get legislation passed. And where else to record a video about AI and songwriting than in Nashville, where I and countless other songwriters cut our teeth and staked our dreams. In the video, we tried to capture some of Music City’s iconic venues and songwriter watering holes to show who and what is at risk. I wonder what it will look like in 10 years.”
This song hits dearly close to home for any songwriter, artist, and really, any human being. Our creativity is in jeopardy, and Brant Miller sings it out loud: “I’m the last songwriter with blood in his veins / Baring my soul, sharing my pain / Machines reach that bottom line faster, it’s true / The last living songwriter’s singin’ the blues.”
