August Benjamin “Surrender”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of August Benjamin’s song “Surrender” from his forthcoming album. The album was produced by Todd Adelman and recorded at The Woods, in Woodstock, NY.
“Surrender” is August Benjamin on vocals and guitars; Taras Prodaniuk on bass; Jim Christie on drums; and Doug Pettibone (Lucinda Williams) on electric guitar, pedal steel guitar, mandolin, and dobro. Additional players include Eamon McLoughlin on fiddle, Tyler Wood on B3 Organ, and Matt Menefee on banjo.
As August tells us about the song, “’Surrender” was the last track written for the album. It is inspired by a brief relationship that I had which wound up having to end before anything serious came of it. Saying goodbye to someone with a lack of catharsis is always a complicated feeling, and “Surrender” is me making peace with the fact that not all endings have emotional closure.”
Easy breezy and heartbreaking at the same time, this song exemplifies the best of Americana music. Sorrow and touches of regret for what might have been.
