Travis McKeveny and the Famous Doctor Scanlon Band “Sloane”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Travis McKeveny and the Famous Doctor Scanlon Band’s song “Sloane” from their forthcoming album From Dublin to Duluth. The album was produced by Travis and The Famous Doctor Scanlon Band; recorded and mixed by Ken Wallace at Ian London Studio; and mastered by Vic Anesini with vinyl mastering by Dan Millice.
There is a sobering story here as the album is a celebration of Travis McKeveny’s songwriting and his life. Travis passed away in 2021 but his bandmates are now bringing his final album into creation as a tribute to his songwriting acumen and the lives he touched.
“Sloane” is Gerry McKeveny on vocals and guitars; Pete Mancini on vocals, guitars, banjo, and lap steel; Joe Caggiano on keyboards, B3 and guitars; Dave March on bass; John Rienzi on drums; Cassandra House on vocals; Damien Pacheco on trumpet; Chris Scarnato on saxophone; and Joe DeVassy on trombone.
As Pete Mancini tells us about this song, “‘Sloane’ is one of my favorite Travis McKeveny songs. It’s a torch song but Trav wanted to capture a Philly soul vibe. I can’t say I’ve ever heard anything quite like it. Nobody sang it like he did but I am happy with how this version came out. My favorite part to play live is the guitarmonies at the end. We all need an occasional reminder that there are still some real fine people in the world.”
Easygoing with a touch of a jazz vibe with guitar melody lines and muted brass in the mix, this song is an exploration of letting someone down easy, and wishing her well: “you still hang up wishing you had been another kind of man, there are some real kind people in the world / you don’t have to take the blame, you don’t have to change your aim.”
