Maya de Vitry “Traveller”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of Maya de Vitry’s song “Traveller” from her forthcoming album All My Faith, which is set for release on July 24. The album was produced by Maya; engineered and mixed by Sean Sullivan; sequenced by Ethan Jodziewicz and mastered by Raelynn Janicke with artwork and design by Lee Ferris. These live performances were recorded over 3 days at The Tractor Shed in Goodlettsville. Everything was captured in real time, played on instruments by real live human beings.
“Traveller” is Maya de Vitry on vocals and acoustic guitar; Shelby Means on harmony vocals; Joel Timmons on harmony vocals; Ethan Ballinger on electric tenor guitar; Spencer Cullum on pedal steel; and Ethan Jodziewicz on upright bass.
As Maya tells us about the song, “This song is a way for me to sit with my beloved Nana again. It takes me back to her house in the final year of her life, to helping her carry a bowl of cereal to the table, of hearing her walker slide across the floor, of hearing her stories about how she met my grandfather. It was so cathartic to write this song. It was a part of my grieving process, and a part of my saying goodbye to her.”
This song is filled with touching gentle imagery of an elderly grandma and a child who loved her. “She still let me play with her hair, we made it a crown, silver and thin.” Maya trains our focus on the passage of time and mortality in compassionate and easygoing folk style arrangements.
