David Serby “Don’t Stay Fixed”

Americana Highways presents this premiere of David Serby’s song “Don’t Stay Fixed” from his forthcoming album Broken Heart in a Honky Tonk (out May 29). The album was recorded at Treehouse Studios in San Gabriel, CA and in Sonic Boom Room in Venice, CA. It was produced by Edward Tree and mastered by Mark Dann. This song will be available on April 30.

“Don’t Stay Fixed” is David Serby on lead vocals and acoustic guitar; Kevin Jarvis on drums; David J. Carpenter on bass and harmony vocals; Edward Tree on electric guitar; Chris Lawrence on pedal steel guitar; Carl Byron on Wurlitzer.

As David Serby tells us, about the song, “I’m not really a handy guy, and I’m horrible at fixing stuff around the house. Fixing stuff always seems more complicated to me than it probably is, and I always try to skip steps and directions because there are so many of them and they seem so complicated. I tried to magnify that frantic feeling by cramming the song with as many internal rhymes as possible. After the first verse it was quite a challenge to maintain the structure and pattern but I made it.”

With complex lyrics highlighting a relatable frustration and layers of driving instrumentation, this song ultimately feels light and casual – not an easy feat to accomplish with all that’s going into it, but David Serby and crew pull it off masterfully.
