Russell Jamie Johnson “Gabrielle”

Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of Russell Jamie Johnson’s song “Gabrielle” from his forthcoming self-titled album, which is set for release on May 15. The album was produced by Chase Potter (except for “Who We Used To Be” acoustic version); mixed by Jannek Zechner with drums, keys, bass, and some guitar recorded at Conveyor with Andrew Sheron and it was mastered by Kevin Blackler.

“Gabrielle” was written with vocals by Russell Jamie Johnson, and is Chase Potter on guitars and bass; Cale Hawkins on organ; and Tyler Newson on drums. This song will be available on April 22.

This video was directed by Haulston Mann and produced by Lady Garden Productions and Russell Jamie Johnson. The video adeptly captures the emotional intensity of this song, which is potent and restrained as it connects deeply.

As Russell tells us, “‘Gabrielle’ came from a strange, almost surreal moment. I found out my girlfriend was cheating on me through Venmo, which felt as impersonal as it gets. But I didn’t write the song until about a year later, when I realized I was still holding onto feelings I thought I’d already moved past. That was the part I couldn’t ignore. How something that ended so badly could still linger. The song lives somewhere between storytelling and confession. It’s me trying to make sense of how someone who meant everything to you doesn’t just disappear overnight, even when maybe they should. It’s about that space where heartbreak turns into memory, and you’re left figuring out why it still matters.”
