Jana Pochop “The Architect + the Artist”
Americana Highways presents this video premiere of Jana Pochop’s new song, “The Architect + the Artist” from her recent album Powerlines. The album was produced by Jana Pochop, mixed by Russell Tanner, and mastered by Nick Landis.
“The Architect + The Artist” is Jana Pochop on synths, acoustic guitar, bass and drum programming; and Katie Lessley on background vocals.
This video was directed, filmed, and edited by Esther Zhou.
As Jana tells us, “I was thrilled to enlist the cinematography talents of my Berklee classmate, Esther Zhou, for this video. She’s a world traveler, and the footage she was able to get on her adventures was the perfect match to the mood and vibe of the song. I think we both wanted to convey how we are all just singular beings moving about on the planet, but desperately trying to make meaningful connections with others as we go.”
This song touches on the introspective awareness of longing for things to improve: “here I am graffiti on stilts, trying to pretty up the walls you built.” On one level it’s about trying to reach someone who’s walled off, and on another level it’s about the hardness of modern society and landscapes. Jana’s delivery is compelling, reflectively dreamlike, and the songwriting is intelligent. The video features captivating footage that results in a second work of art.
