Goldpine – Three

Goldpine is powerhouse Nashville duo Benjamin and Kassie Wilson, and they’re releasing a new album this week, their third: Three. Characterized by Kassie’s powerful and lavish vocals, the songs take the formidable approach to grab your attention and tell it like it is. It’s empowered without showboating or pushiness. There’s no frailty here but there’s a consistent depth of authenticity and honesty.

There’s a richness to Goldpine’s music. As a case in point, launching the album, “Alabama Born” sets out with low baritone and driving tambourine and Kassie’s dimensional vocals soar while remaining fully grounded. It’s a unique combination.

Next on “Confessions” the harmonica is “John Popper” melodious and the thunderous energy continues:  “I keep trying to convince myself that it’s all in good health… hey my name is Jack, I think I might have a problem.”  On “Understand” there’s a more directly bluesy vibe on display with a slower tempo and an easy tenderness: “I believe in love, they try to put it up on the silver screen but that could never hold all its complexity.”

“Lean Into the Turns” is a snappier crowd pleaser about the lighter stages of falling in love, and Kassie trades vocals with Radney Foster with a pleasing result: “hold on and lean into the turns.”  “Love Is” slows things down with both singing again in a vocals-forward love song “I wanna know what it is…”

The duo can be raucous and ratchet up the energy but they spend equally important time with more subdued ruminative approaches, without abandoning their power baseline. Along the way they consistently lean into love in their songwriting. Find more details here on their website: https://goldpinemusic.com/
