Channing K – “Make a Woman”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of  Channing K’s video and song, co-written with Jesse Dozzi, “Make a Woman,” from her forthcoming album. The album was produced by Alex Kiel, mixed by Brandon Buttner, and mastered by Makoa Johnson. Cover art is by Dom Hanft.

“Make a Woman” is Channing K on vocals; Jon Krentz on guitar; Eric Clifford on bass; and Tyler Kloewer on drums.

The video was created by Lone Valley (Zack Manning, Mark Manning) and Dom Hanft.

Channing K tells us: “‘Make a Woman’ is a song meant to bring some hope and empowerment to any woman who has been undermined or all-around disrespected. I had the idea for the song when I was thinking of some of the strong women who have helped shape my life. I wanted a song to celebrate them, along with all women, and let it be a reminder that you can always stand up for yourself and there’s power in speaking the truth. I want to thank my great friend and co-writer, Jesse Dozzi, for writing this with me and seeing the vision as a whole. I also want to thank my producer, Alex Kiel, and the musicians – Jon Krentz (guitars), Eric Clifford (bass), and Tyler Kloewer (drums).

“When it came to making the music video, I had multiple conversations with Lone Valley about what we wanted the scenes to look like. I had the idea to recreate a pretty iconic scene from the show “One Tree Hill,” which has always been a comfort show of mine. What that scene stands for fit perfectly into the message behind this song as well, so that was a fun little scene we included. We also wanted there to be beautiful scenes that included more women in it to solidify that feeling of unity, which is another message throughout the song. The music video is a beautiful representation of the strength in vulnerability that women hold.”

This video is truly stunning, as Channing K wears words use to denigrate women written on her skin as she sings the song in a community of other women falling in beside her. The effect is a powerful support to a powerful song. It’s important and well worth the watch and listen.
