Yarn – “Turn Off The News”

Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of Yarn’s song “Turn Off the News” from their forthcoming album Born, Blessed, Grateful & Alive, which is due to be available on July 26. The album was produced by Damian Calcagne and Blake Christiana, recorded at the Pine Box, and mastered by Fred Kevorkian.

“Turn Off the News” is Blake Christiana on guitar and lead vocals; Robert Bonhomme on drums; Andy Falco (The Infamous Stringdusters) on lead guitar; Damian Calcagne on piano and organ; Heather Hannah and Elliott Peck on backing vocals; and Johnny Grubb and Rick Bugel on bass. With Blake as newscaster in a tongue-in-cheek intro, the video sets up the scene for us all to please “turn off the news, shake off the blues – life is short, it’s sweet if you make it,” with a touch of humor in the headlines. The song turns into a bit of a ballad with sustained organ and good solid advice. Yarn provides a respectable roots rock underpinning for some honest songwriting with a touch of fun.

I was addicted to news apps on my phone and it was killing me. Ruining my mental well being. I quit cold turkey and wrote this song. I wanted to write 10 songs called Turn Off The News and release them as an album that’s how strongly I feel about turning off the news. This wound up being the only one I wrote. I think I said all that needed to be said. — Blake Christiana, YARN
