Lolly Lee – self titled

Lolly Lee has a new self-titled album produced by Anthony Crawford (Neil Young) at Admiral Bean Studio, on 2400 private acres of land in Loxley, Alabama.  It was mastered at Independent Mastering by Eric Conn.

“Satellite” kicks off the album in an animated fireball, with a heartland rock base and Lolly’s mature vocals “you’re not lost anymore… step into your life.” “Free State of Winston” follows up with a baritone guitar sound  and the lyrics describe some of those yards that contain everything, with a sassy rhythm and lap steel. “Fortuna’s Ink” is a slower – tempo number with a song about vaping, tattoos, and the heart of the story is “what did you really think when the deal was sealed with disappearing ink.”

“Great Crusade” takes more of a dirty guitar tone direction.   “Used to Live Here” is bright mandolins plucking melody, and the relatable feel with the personal touch of details:  “I know this place, it’s familiar, I used to live here…. a tapestry of large mouth bass.”  “Whisper” later showcases the pretty mandolin sounds once again in a “love you out loud” song.  “Ave Maria Grotto” is a heavier electric guitar rock number.  “Sweet Alabama Home” is a dynamic homage to the richness and “symphony” that characterizes living in Alabama.

This album is solid, lively and showcases Lolly’s ability to vividly describe American rural Southern country life and foundational modern day human experiences.  Tadpoles, vaping shops, gunpowder, coon hounds, dinner bells, cicadas, motels, hollerin’ and, always, an underlying unconditional feel: “if you need me, I come runnin’.”

Musicians on the album are Lolly Lee on vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and mandolin; Anthony Crawford on backing vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, mandolin, lap steel, violin, organ, bass, drums, and percussion; and Savana Lee (Sugarcane Jane) on backing vocals.
