Parker Barrow – “Back to Birmingham”

Americana Highways brings you this video premiere for Parker Barrow’s  song “Back to Birmingham,” a song that appeared on their recently released album Jukebox Gypsies.  Jukebox Gypsies was produced, engineered and mixed by Stephen McKnight, with executive producer Dr. G.  It was mastered by Howie Weinberg.

“Back to Birmingham” is Megan Kane on vocals; Stephen McKnight on piano, B3, guitar, bass and strings; Kevin Soffera on drums; and Cara Horner, Brandi Sanders, and Alyssa Lee Lewis on background vocals.

This video was directed, filmed, and edited by Tony Mancuso and Mike Truehart of Rambunctious Pictures.  Parker Barrow is duo Megan Kane and Dylan Turner, and you can see them here in this video as they demonstrate homesickness, pride, nostalgia and the fear that it’ll be “a little too little too late” after chasing your dreams and leaving loved ones back at home.  We’re just waiting for the day the road takes you home, and that’s a formidable sentiment.  The music builds gracefully around the piano and Megan’s power vocals, especially on “Trying to make you proud keeps me away from you,” are the power lines.

For 5 years “Back to Birmingham” lived on a shelf. Throughout those 5 years we felt the words of this song come to life a little too literally in every single way. Getting the chance to add color to our black and white canvas is an absolute honor and makes this song even more special. The evolution of this song from Dylan’s parent’s basement, to the studio, and now through the official music video is something we are beyond proud of and we are excited to finally be able to share this piece of our story with all of you. Thank you to Tony Mancuso of Rambunctious Pictures, Stephen McKnight of Thermal Studios, and Dr. G for bringing the life to this song that it deserved. – Dylan Turner
