Lee Gallagher – “Something Better”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Lee Gallagher’s song “Something Better” from his forthcoming album The Falcon Ate The Flower.  The album will be released on November 3rd, 2023 via Clean Livin’ Records. It was produced and engineered by Jason Soda (Everest GospelbeacH), recorded at Palomino Sound in Los Angeles, and mastered by JJ Golden of Golden Mastering.

“Something Better” is Lee Gallagher on acoustic guitar and vocals; Jason Soda on lead guitar; Jonny Niemann (Old Californios, GospelbeacH) on Fender Rhodes and Hammond organ; Steven Mertens (Moldy Peaches) on bass; and Will Scott (Wolfmother, Mooney Suzuki) on drums.

This music is quite intense and meant to be played on large stages and expansive settings, but all the while Lee balances that rock energy with restraint and emotion.  It’s quite remarkable and a great listen.

This was the second take we did of this song. I wrote the opening “riff” on the acoustic guitar up in San Francisco and lyrically I had a basic idea of what I was doing. It’s kind of a kiss off song. We played it once in the studio and decided it needed a bridge. Jason came up with a little chord progression for the middle part and we hit it on the second take. I love how you can really zone in on each instrument and feel the spontaneous interplay that was happening. – Lee Gallagher
