Ally Venable show at Humphrey’s By the Bay in San Diego
Twenty-four year old Texas native, Ally Venable is the real deal. Ally who is currently opening for blues guitar legend Kenny Wayne Shepherd’s tour is a force to be reckoned with. I was blown away. Not only by her prowess with the guitar but she can belt out a song with the best of them.
Normally the opening acts on a tour play to a small portion of the crowd that the headliner sees. This was not the case for Venable at Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay in San Diego. After her second song the sold-out crowd was very attentive and appreciative of her talents.
Ally performed songs from her new album Real Gone including the title track, “Texas Louisiana” which features blues legend, Buddy Guy on the album), and “Kick Your Ass.” She closed out her set with an instrumental homage to one of her idols, Stevie Ray Vaughan. If you closed your eyes you may have actually thought Stevie Ray was up on the stage.
She received not one, but three standing ovations from the crowd. After her set there was a line of fans waiting to buy albums, t-shirts and posters. They all wanted an autograph and a selfie with this future legend. She later came back on stage to play a duet with Kenny Wayne Shepherd. This young lady will be headlining blues festivals all over very soon. I am glad I got to witness the future of blue guitar in a nice intimate setting like Humphrey’s Concerts By The Bay.
