Tom Faia and Kate Miller

REVIEW: Tom Faia and Kate Miller “Risk It All For Love”

Reviews

Tom Faia and Kate Miller have a new album Risk It All For Love.  The album was produced and recorded by Vince Sanchez (Hank and Ella with the Fine Country Band, Dale Ockerman, John Mirani). It was recorded in VSO Studio, Santa Cruz, California; Faia House Recording in Pacific Grove, California; Casa Europa Studio in Scalea, Italy.

“Gonna Woo My Baby Tonight” opens the album with quick electric guitar runs, tambourine and a fun song of wooing ensues, complete with candles and a special dinner of casserole leading to moaning til the sun comes up, all over rockabilly hand claps. Romance ain’t dead,, and then the killer harmonica takes it away.

The title track opens with a lonesome harmonica and Tom and Kate show their more serious side, but there are still glimmers of sass and celebration shining all through the mix.

With “Pound My Heart Against The Wall” we get pleading vocals from Kate and it’s a song of heartache punctuated by snappy beat and rich harmonica.   “Don’t Really Know Why My Baby Loves Me” takes a twirl into the blues with a bit of swagger in the mix — “she does, she really does.”

“Keep My Eyes Wide Open” is a sultry groove and a tale of helping a friend out to find him a girl.

The whole album is highly enjoyable.  With Tom Faia and Kate Miller, the messages are universal and timeless, while the music is eternally optimistic.

Musicians on the album are Tom Faia on guitar, vocals and harp; Kate Miller on vocals; Jesse Diaz on bass; Vince Sanchez on percussion and drums; and with Jimmy Norris (Carolyn Sills Combo) on drums on “Keep my Eyes Wide Open.”
