Rose’s Pawn Shop – “Fugitive”
Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of Rose’s Pawn Shop’s song “Fugitive” from their album Punch Drunk Life. The album was produced by Zachary Ross; engineered by Jason Hiller and Zachary Ross; and mixed by Zack Darling.
“Fugitive” is Paul Givant on vocals, acoustic guitar, clawhammer banjo, harmonica, and percussion; Stephen Andrews on upright and electric bass; Zachary Ross on electric and acoustic guitars, harmony vocals, and percussion; Tim Weed on fiddle; Matt Lesser on drums and percussion; and John Kraus on banjo and harmony vocals.
The video was directed by Kenneth Billington @superninkendo; produced with acting by Yelizaveta Sorkin @yelsorkin; with DP by Charlie Cole @charcolevision. The video opens with someone running, terrified, and then the song launches from there, with banjos and flinty harmonies and lines like: You had to break open a memory / I’d hidden away in my head / The ripples of time spread out slowly / But it’s all rushing back again / Now you got me right where you want me / You caught your fugitive. The banjos really sound like your heart is beating out of your chest, and the violin seals the deal. Great musicianship, great song.
“Fugitive” is a song about the elaborate ways human beings can run and hide from their past or from the parts of themselves they’re not ready or willing to face.
For the “Fugitive” video Rose’s Pawn Shop was honored to work with director Kenneth Billington, his creative partner Actress/Editor Yelizaveta Sorkin and their talented team. We shot two days out in Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley California and they crafted an intriguing story around the song of a “bandit on the run” from her personal demons, finding personal liberation out in the desolate but beautiful high desert of California. We were very lucky to work with such a talented group to bring this music video to life. — Paul Givant
