Song Premiere: Kevin Daniel “Heart Like Mine”

Listen & Watch Song Premieres

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Kevin Daniel’s song “A Heart Like Mine,” from his forthcoming album The Life and Adventures of Kevin Daniel.  The album was produced by Kevin, with Jeremy Darrow, and Jon Weisberger.  It was recorded, mixed and mastered by Clay Miller at Crossroads Studios in Arden, NC.

“A Heart Like Mine” is Kevin Daniel on acoustic guitar and lead vocals; Jeremy Darrow on electric bass; Patrick French on electric guitar; Logan Jayne on drums; Kevin Williams on piano and harmony vocals; DaShawn Hickman on lap steel guitar; and Wendy Hickman on harmony vocals.  Kevin has harnessed old-timey country elements for this one, with a power refrain: “Why can’t I let go of the things I don’t know … Don’t take much to say you’re doing fine, it don’t take much to keep a heart like mine.”  Closure isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and maybe it’s not real at all.

A few years ago, a relationship of mine ended after almost a decade. My partner essentially disappeared from my world, almost like a ghost. This song is about my inability to get closure and that even just knowing she’s alive and well might be enough for me to close the chapter on that part of my life. The irony is that closure doesn’t really exist, and it’s really on myself to move on. Despite knowing that, my heart still tells me it could heal if she told me she was doing fine. — Kevin D.
