Video Premiere: James Houlahan “Merge”

Listen & Watch Video Premieres

Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of James Houlahan’s song “Merge,” from his newly released album Beyond the Borders. Beyond the Borders was produced by Fernando Perdomo and James Houlahan; it was primarily recorded at Stairway Studios and Los Angeles.

“Merge” is James on vocals, acoustic and electric guitars; Fernando Perdomo on bass and keyboards; Danny Frankel on drums and percussion; Scarlet Rivera on violin; Joel Martin on pedal steel guitar; Scott Doherty on piano and other keyboards; Leeann Skoda and Esther Houlahan on vocals.

The video was shot by James and Esther Houlahan, and edited and directed by James.  The video is a vignette about what could happen if you fell asleep in the carwash and began to dream.  The song has a nostalgic vibe with a touch of rockabilly, 50’s style in the “ooo” harmonies within it.

This is a love song, for my wife. Sometimes we sing together, and that’s something we need to do more. It’s all there in the sound. Falling rain, roaring rivers, the kinetic energy of pure action. Love can bind us to what’s truly necessary, what’s truly elemental. A song can lead us back to that understanding, that feeling. Songs can lead us back to love, when we lose the way. All we need to do is sing. — James Houlahan
