Americana Highways hosts the premiere of “Headin’ East,” the first single from Minnesota singer-songwriter MoeDeLL’s forthcoming 2023 full-length album. “Headin’ East,” which was produced by Mike Lardy at Mike Lardy Creative Studio in Luxemburg, Minnesota, features MoeDeLL on vocals and acoustic guitar along with Chris O’Brien on Dobro and backing vocals, Jimbo Miller on bass and Lardy, who plays percussion on the track. Both Chris O’Brien and Jimbo Miller also play in the Potluck String Band.

MoeDeLL hits the road Friday November 11 in support of the single, with dates that take him through North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana before he heads back to Minnesota at the end of the month.

“Headin’ East” is a medium-tempo song about the themes of travel and settling down, with MoeDeLL singing about listening to AM radio and going to Kentucky, where he has a “pretty good time with those Hazard boys.” It’s a level-headed tune anchored by O’Brien’s sensitive Dobro playing and MoeDeLL’s rock-solid acoustic guitar. Near the end of the song, MoeDeLL sings about nearing the Virginia line—an appropriate turn by the singer, who was born in Portsmouth, Virginia and moved to Minnesota in 2007.

Talking about “Headin’ East,” MoeDeLL says: “I drive a lot to shows, and I write a lot about being on the road and going somewhere. It’s about picking up where you’re at and heading out in search of something new, and the journey along the way.”

“Headin’ East” follows MoeDeLL’s acclaimed 2021 album Ain’t That Something and his 2020 nominations for Songwriter of the Year and Americana Artist of the Year by the Midwest Country Music Association. Talking about Ain’t That Something’s “The Trucker Song” – Music Mecca said: “The song captures the patience, ruggedness, and adventurous spirit commanded by long hours on the open road while progressively developing the character of the truck driver himself.”
