Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Garrett Heath’s song “Same Old Story,” from his forthcoming album The Losing End, set for release on April 22. Â The album was engineered, mixed and mastered by Garrett.
All instrumentation on the record is by multi-instrumentalist Garrett Heath: vocals, harmonica, acoustic and electric guitar; bass, drum kit and piano. “Am I the man I’m meant to be?” launches the sorrow and struggle of some folks measuring their lot up agains the ideals of the American Dream. Â A song like this taps into the stirring of longing for more that can be a whole new beginning.
“Same Old Story” is the solitary cry of a broken man caught between the practical realities of his life and the dreams he’s been taught to chase since his childhood. For him, and a thousand other men like him in rural America, the American Dream is a relic of history, or at least a possibility only for those with some form of a privileged upbringing. The rest of us simply struggle in our daily grind to pay the heating bill and put food on the table for our children. But still, there’s a hidden beauty present if we can only find the strength to see it. — Garrett Heath
