Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Sterling Drake’s song, “Roll the Dice,” the title-track off of his upcoming album set to be released later this year. Produced by Drake and Mary Meyer, “Roll the Dice,” was mastered and engineered by Mark Thornton at Sidekick Studios in Madison, Tennessee and features Sterling Drake on guitar and vocals, Tommy White on pedal steel, Dennis Crouch on bass, Mary Meyer on fiddle, Adam Duran on electric guitar, and Chris Weisbecker on drums.
Evoking the sounds that poured out of dance halls and clubs in the Southwestern United States during the 1930s and 1940s, “Roll the Dice” is not simply a song that pays homage to a bygone era in country music, but is a definitive example of keeping the tradition of Western swing alive for a whole new generation. With a swingin’ arrangement featuring three-part sections incorporating fiddle and pedal steel guitar, “Roll the Dice,” stands out as an innovative interpretation of a classic country music style that feels as fresh and original as ever, especially in comparison to the sounds coming out of Music City, today.
With ‘Roll the Dice,” I’m just trying to make music that people in 2021 can enjoy by repackaging some elements of classic country songwriting and production. – Sterling Drake
