Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Lakota John’s song, “Together at Home,” the first in a series of songs set to be released each month by John until next year. Written, produced, mastered and entirely performed by John, “Together at Home” was recorded in Lumberton, North Carolina.
Written in isolation during the Covid-19 pandemic, “Together at Home” is a song that is as soothing as it is uplifting, and as meditative as it is transcendent. Containing a hopeful message of unity and peace, the song has a timeless quality that transcends the context in which it was written and can wholly be applied to any given point in the history of the human experience, whether it be past, present, or future; for we have been and will continue to navigate this earthly experience together as a people. The song also demonstrates John’s versatility as an artist for it features him not only in the role of singer and producer, but also as a multi-instrumentalist with the track featuring him on guitar, slide guitar, and mandolin.
I always write the lyrics and story before coming up with any music. After that I worked up the song on guitar but began hearing simultaneous ascension and descension of harmonies which I felt was great for slide and mandolin. I tracked everything and the song was born!” – Lakota John
