Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Mike Aiken’s song “Nashville Skyline” song, written with Chris P. James, from his forthcoming album Wayward Troubadour. Wayward Troubadour was produced by Mike Aiken, recorded at Latitude South Studios in Leipers Fork, TN; mixed by Skip DeRupa.
“Nashville Skyline” is Mike Aiken on vocals and guitars, (cousin) Kenny Vaughan on guitars, David Roe on stand up bass; Tom Hurst on drums; and Chris P James on backing vocals. This song is a tip of the hat to Byrds-esque country rock, and a continuation of the genre’s style. Mike Aiken has more than succeeded in adding to the history country rock music.
I had a theme and feel (running around in my head) for a throw-back Southern California type of country tune, laid-back, almost hippy vibe. Akin to the Byrds, Parsons, Burrito Bros sounds. So with that in mind I called my buddy Chris P James (Burrito Bros.) to discuss the idea of a co-write. We were reminiscing about our lifetimes of being on the road working out of Nashville and the iconic view of the Nashville Skyline you see long before you get into town. I had the idea to mix the feelings longing for home and family with the joy of being an on-the-road musician who loves what he/she does. – Mike Aiken
