Rosanne Cash performed a 90-minute acoustic set to a sold-out crowd at the Poway Center for Performing Arts in Poway, CA. Cash was accompanied by her husband, Jon Leventhal. The show was part of the 2019-2020 Poway OnStage series held at the center. Artists who have performed for the series include Steve Poltz, Arlo Guthrie, Charlie Musselwhite with Elvin Bishop, Melissa Ethergidge, and others.
Cash started off her set with “A Feather’s Not a Bird” from her critically acclaimed 2013 album The River and the Thread. She also performed “The Sunken Lands” a poignant song about her father, Johnny Cash, mother and the hard life she led and yet she never became a bitter woman.
Other songs in her set included the Grammy nominated Crossing to Jerusalem from her latest album, “She Remembers Everything.” Also in her set were covers form her father, “Tennessee Flattop Box”, “Ode to Billy Joe” a Bobby Gentry cover and Bury Me Beneath the Weeping Willow” by the Carter Family. She finished the show with the traditional song “The Wayfaring Stranger.” Over the course of the night, the crowd was visibly moved and hanging on every note, and the show was clearly a happy, rousing success.
