Americana Highways brings you this song premiere of Michael Doucet’s “Bad Woman” from his upcoming album Lâcher Prise, produced by Michael Doucet, Chad Viator, and Garry West. Lâcher Prise was recorded by Justin Tocket in Louisiana’s Dockside Studios and Matt Coles at Compass Sound in Nashville.
“Bad Woman” is Michael Doucet on vocals and fiddle; Chad Viator on electric and acoustic guitars; Sarah Quintana on acoustic and electric guitar and backing vocals; Chris French on bass; and Jim Kolacek on drums and percussion; with Becca “Zydeco” Begneaud on T’fer and rub board; Reese Wynans on piano and organ; Jim Hoke on pedal steel and sax.
“Bad Woman” opens with macabre zydeco fiddle and eerie wailing vocals and the hop step of burlesque Louisiana rhythms. Michael Doucet’s Lâcher Prise promises to be much-needed, chilling entertainment this season.
Original tune by Lionel Belasco of Trinidad one of the earliest and great composers of Caribbean island music from 1915-1945. I found the sheet music & decided to give it a little more Spanish tinge. Many of his tunes have made it into the New Orleans Créole trad jazz repertoire. —Michael Doucet
