Americana Highways presents this premiere of the title track from Dan Bern’s upcoming release Regent Street, due September 13th, although this single song will be available sooner. The album was produced by Jonathan Flaugher with executive producer Jordan Katz; recorded and mixed by Pete Min at Lucy’s Meat Market; and mastered by Dave Collins.
“Regent Street” is Dan Bern on vocals, harmonica, guitar and piano; Jonathan Flaugher on bass; Lee Pardini on keys; Rob Humphreys on drums; Bill Titus and Trevor Menear on guitars; Jordan Katz and David Ralicke on horns; and Leah Zeger on violin and vocals.
Dan Bern is a painter as well as a musician and some of his brilliant work is showcased here on art heralding the album. But more of his brilliant work and musicianship awaits once you hit play. “Regent Street” is a rollicking number accented by triumphant horns and exciting vocal delivery. It was initially recorded by Roger Daltrey, appearing here in this version in Bern’s own signature style. Among Dan Bern’s numerous gallery shows, books, and songs appearing in films, and 25 previous albums/EPs, Regent Street is poised to be the icing on the cake, with its sheer energy and jubilation.
I wrote “Regent Street” in London at my cousin’s house. I sent it to my friend Roger Daltrey who recorded a phenomenal version. When I recorded it I was thinking of his version. So it’s almost like a cover of my own song. — Dan Bern
