Song Premiere: David G Smith’s duet with Mary Gauthier “Shine”

Listen & Watch Song Premieres

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of David G Smith’s duet with Mary Gauthier, “Shine,” from his upcoming release Who Cares, which was produced, engineered and mixed by Blue Miller, and mastered by Jim Lightman and will be available on August 23rd. “Shine” is David G Smith on acoustic guitar and lead vocals; Mary Gauthier on lead vocals; Blue Miller on electric guitar, percussion and backing vocals; Doug Kahan on bass; Steve Grossman on drums and Tony Harrell on Hammond B3.

“Shine” has grown from its nascent stages as a one word declarative song performed as by Mary Gauthier with David G Smith singing too — ten years ago at a Costa Rica songwriter’s retreat — into this fully blossomed song by the same name written by David G Smith and performed with Mary Gauthier. With a swingy melody line and slow winding tempo, David G Smith has created a heartfelt song full of familiar imagery and a generous message.  Producer Blue Miller unfortunately passed away before seeing this project reach the public, but it’s clear he would have been proud.

“Shine” is about asking for, and sharing, the light of hope. In other words, it’s a prayer and a promise. — David G. Smith
